Spring Into Fitness for Fertility
For those struggling with sub-fertility and infertility, a sense of new beginnings can be a welcome shift. As the weather warms up and the outdoors beckons, the desire to re-evaluate goals, including improved diet and more frequent exercise, comes naturally.
While your fertility doctor analyzes the obvious factors affecting your fertility including the health of your eggs, tubes, uterus, and also your partner’s sperm, the natural rhythm of spring makes it the perfect time for you to dig deeper and consider other factors that may be affecting your health and ability to conceive. Just as chicks bust out of their shells in the springtime and butterflies emerge from their cocoons, so can you shake off the stagnant feelings that are associated with winter and dive in to take the steps necessary to change your lifestyle for the better.
First, set SMART goals. SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Timely. Whenever I read amazing stories about women who have made 180-degree changes in their bodies, the common thread is that they have first set SMART goals, and then followed through with carefully plotted out strategies for success.
Then surround yourself with friends and family members that are supportive of your reaching the greater goal of starting or expanding your family. The people that you need around you are those that will help motivate you either by physically joining you in your fitness plan and/or by encouraging you psychologically and emotionally by providing you with lots of love and positive reinforcement as you transition into the new and improved you.
Spring is the perfect time to tap into the motivation necessary to explore your desire for health, and also for conception. It’s also psychically the right time of year to take on a fresh new attitude grounded in a strong belief in yourself.
